Jail Bars

Jail bars
Cages for humans who committed crimes
Made mistakes
But no one is born mean
No one is born a murderer
It’s a punish them type of society
But never a punish the systems that created these circumstances
Black and brown bodies behind bars
Come with dark pasts
Dark stories
Stories that wrote themselves with black and brown children as main characters
Victims of cycles they did not create
Jail bars
Jail bars
This poem is not an excuse
It’s an attempt to open eyes
Black and brown bodies behind jail bars
Are the consequences we are forced to pay because we have systems that go unpunished
