I forgot what it was like to feel the butterflies
To take up space and light up a room
I forgot what it was like to touch lightly while talking
Smiling from ear to ear
I forgot what it was like…dancing in the middle of the dance floor, no dance partner, one dance partner, multiple dance partners, and then a group of women cheering me on and me cheering them on
Us complimenting one another on how beautiful we are
I forgot what it’s like to ask for what I want and then receive it effortlessly
I was reminded of how important human connection is
We need one another

Angelica Flores is a poet, writer, storyteller, and blogger from Stockton, California and is currently living in Monterey, California. Her work has been published in Joaquin Magazine, the Collegian Newspaper, Exist(ir), Hispanecdotes, Scran Press and more. She has also performed her poetry in multiple venues in the Central Valley, Sacramento, and Monterey County. Angelica has written social justice curriculum for non-profits and is a mental health advocate. She believes that healing is possible through storytelling and poetry.
